Well, I haven’t written much about them, I suppose I sometimes make some worldbuilding related posts but that’s pretty rare… Especially since I have plans for making some comics and I don’t want to spoil too much, or end up spoiling a lot or idek. It’s hard, maaaan. (also I have like way too many ideas for way too many things and everything turns out half-baked. though my bird people universe seems most developed at the moment and with the clearest scope about what I want to do with it!)

I haven’t RPed much in a looong time, I used to do drawn RPs quite a bit on MSN, Tegaki and Tegaki Messenger (trying to pick up Tegaki Messenger again maybe.)

Q:How do you come up with your characters? Are they spontaneous, and just evolve the more you draw them?

a little bit of column A, a little bit of column B. but yeah, a lot of times they are spontaneous and pop in my head uninvited or during brainstorming/listening to music/etc.

does the word “why” even exist for monsters with a mindset so utterly alien that trying to figure out their motivation would be to simplify them as beings and make them too “human” to be truly considered alien

or is it just a cop-out akin to “just because” 8I

Ordinarily I like to see some reason why, and when I first came across your Daddy Long Legs comic, I remember struggling to try and make sense of it. It doesn’t really fit conventional narrative styles and the characters don’t have this conventional set of traits you can latch onto to fully understand. I was intrigued and perservered and came to understand that if you present a world and characters in a way as otherworldy as you do, the very inscrutability and alien-ness of the characters’ motivations and plot- the way you can’t really predict them, gives a particular depth of atmosphere. So yeah, while I would ordinarily say some monstrous bad guy ought to have some sort of depth of character, your work and the atmosphere it creates thrives on that ambiguity of character.  You are very good at giving this alien, inscrutable quality to your characters.

  • Eli - animal people from a setting reminiscent of Finnish forests.

  • Frank Lee Grimm - a skeleton dude

  • Enigma Beast - kind of an offshoot of Laistrygon
